So here’s the thing…

Without overwhelming people with research and graphs that can take a while to interpret and figure out (see Heather McLeod research from Planning for Palliative Care Services Hui 2023 here) just know that we will be needing to up skill ourselves, to bravely reconnect with and normalise death, dying, caregiving and bereavement in our homes, schools, organisations and communities.

And soon.

My mission is to do my part in helping to build, resource and empower communities who innately know how to care for each other in challenging times, to bring end of life back in to the social realm that it belongs in rather than the current medical model of end of life...

To do this takes a social change that builds communities based on what is existing, what is working and supporting communities to identify and choose what they need (i.e. Allan Kellehear's Compassionate Communities) rather than being told what they need by people who don't live in their community... Rather than researching and auditing service delivery outcomes, we should be measuring how resourced and confident a community feels to care for their own...

For people who are interested in building their own skills and capacity in this space, stay tuned! I will share some of my favourite teachers, mentors, resources and books etc who are all about sharing their knowledge to support communities to care for their own.
